The ‘Health’care system

I have incredibly strong views on our worldwide healthcare system. Its crap. Honestly, at what point did we go so wrong? As a student that has been studying a degree in Health Science for the past 4 years, I have heard it all, and from all sides of the story. The whole thing is a business. Which means its trying to make a profit. Who is making these profits? Well, the drug companies for one, governments, the 1% etc. The point is, there are a bunch of people making lots of money off the average person being sick.

“Health-the state of being free from illness or injury”

I mean we hear it all the time-1 in 3 people will get cancer, Saturated fat causes heart disease, and the list goes on. We are told that we are inevitably going to get sick. But what if there is another way. What if you can say no. Say no to the healthcare system, say no to drugs, and say no to a society that is breeding a decline in estimated life span. That’s right, if you hadn’t heard it already, our lifespans are likely to decrease in the next generation.

The saddest thing is, that’s our kids. That”s our grand kids. Do we really not care about what is going to happen to them? The issue is that it’s such a multi-faceted issue, that no-one has any ideas how to solve it. The law makers arnt doing anything productive. Yes there are small pockets of communities and populations actually doing something. There are people who are making a difference. But its only a small number.

A thing that strikes me close to the heart is cancer. My Aunt died a few years ago from breast cancer, and my Nan a few years before her. And what treatment do they have for cancer? Radiation, chemo, simply chopping the thing out. I say no to that. I am going to do my utmost best, to prevent cancer. I am going to live my life, not afraid of cancer, but taking my life and healthcare into my own hands. I am responsible for the choices I make-So if to say I started smoking, that is a choice I have made to die a few years earlier.

Of course, we are also a product of our environment. But the government is pretty slow to change that. Eventually enough people will be unable to work, that its not profitable anymore to have so many people unwell. Soon, but not soon enough. Maybe then they will realize that there are some huge issues we have created in our desire to have money.

So, whats my point? Well, there are a bunch of people starting to think about wellness. What is it? Well for me, wellness is a multi-faceted way of looking at our health. It is not merely the absence of disease, it is the amazing ability of our bodies and minds to achieve their optimum potential. Every human has the potential for self healing and complete wellness. But its not just physical wellness, its spiritual, chemical and emotional.

“Wellness: the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort. An approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases”

Anyway, rant over. I would LOVE to hear your views on our healthcare systems, and what you are doing to create wellness in the lives of yourself, and the people you love.
